Documentary Dramaturgy Workshop
In collaboration with the Dramaturgs’ Network, I was invited to hold a workshop for Birkbeck’s MA Dramaturgy Students on the subject of Documentary Theatre. I was recently invited back to host another workshop for the 24/25 cohort.
Using source material - from scholars and practitioners such as Carol Martin, Geoffry Maguire, and Lola Arias - coupled with my experiences as Resident Dramaturg for documentary theatre company, Life Jacket Theatre, this interactive workshop served as an introduction to documentary/verbatim dramaturgy whilst empowering students to create their own documentary narratives. In this session, students embarked on the initial stages of development for a verbatim theatre piece, using techniques borrowed from Elinor Fuchs and David Edgar.
